Microdermabrasion in Dallas, TX
Bright glowing skin that’s healthy and youthful in appearance is highly coveted and desired by many people. Several people mistakenly believe that flawless skin can only be achieved with a significant investment of time, money, and multiple surgeries but a single non-invasive cosmetic procedure called microdermabrasion can deliver the same outstanding results. Board-certified plastic surgeon and medical director of The Bloom Medical Spa, Dr. David G. Genecov, welcomes Texans from Dallas, Plano, and the surrounding communities of The Lone Star State to experience the effectiveness and countless benefits of microdermabrasion treatments for themselves.
What Is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure that gently exfoliates and removes the outermost layer of the skin, revealing a smoother, younger looking appearance. Various microdermabrasion techniques have been used to polish and refine the skin for several decades, but modern, medical-grade technology makes the treatment safer and more powerful than ever before. Microdermabrasion is a quick, instant-gratification treatment that is performed in-office at The Bloom Medical Spa.
Microdermabrasion is performed with a handheld device that can either buff and polish the skin with fine, microdermabrasion crystals or mechanically exfoliate the skin with a diamond tip.
The original approach to microdermabrasion blew fine microcrystals across the skin at a high speed as the microdermabrasion wand is gently moved across the treatment area. An attached vacuum suctions loose, dead skin cells away from the treatment area as they’re buffed from the top layer of the skin.
Diamond Tip Method
The newer approach to microdermabrasion uses a DiamondTome™ wand with disposable or reusable natural diamond chips at the tip to buff away dead skin cells and polish the skin. These diamond tips come in different sizes and coarseness to accommodate different skin types and achieve varying depths of resurfacing. An attached waste filter vacuums dead skin cells back into the machine. The ease of use for practitioners and minimal risk of adverse outcomes and reactions for patients makes the natural diamond tip the preferred microdermabrasion treatment method of many physicians.
Regardless of which microdermabrasion approach you choose, both methods will increase circulation and blood flow in the treatment area, which accelerates cell turnover and stimulates collagen remodeling.
The quick and non-invasive nature of microdermabrasion allows most patients to resume their normal work and daily routine immediately after treatment. Additionally, microdermabrasion is a painless, convenient alternative to achieving the healthy, luminous glow characteristic of more aggressive laser resurfacing treatments, but with zero downtime.
What Areas of the Body Are Treated with Microdermabrasion?
While we mostly perform microdermabrasion on the face, neck, and chest, sometimes in a single treatment session, microdermabrasion is highly effective for rejuvenating skin all over the body. Some practitioners even perform a scaled-down version of the microdermabrasion procedure prior to laser resurfacing treatments to increase the depth of the laser’s penetration and enhance results.
Am I a Candidate for Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a mild procedure that is safe and highly effective for all skin types. The procedure is ideal for minor skin imperfections such as enlarged pores, blackheads, whiteheads, uneven skin texture, and dull skin. The procedure is not recommended for more severe skin imperfections. Most patients require two to three treatment sessions to obtain their desired outcome. The results of a single microdermabrasion treatment can last several weeks, but regular maintenance treatments can prolong your renewed, youthful appearance.
What is the Microdermabrasion Procedure Like?
At the start of the procedure, the treatment area will be cleansed of any dirt and oil and protective goggles will be placed over your face if the dermabrasion microcrystals is the chosen treatment method.
The dermabrasion wand will be gently guided across your skin using semicircular motions with the diamond head tip or while manually exfoliating with the microcrystals. Dead skin cells will simultaneously be vacuumed or brushed away with each stroke of the dermabrasion wand.
Following treatment, a hydrating serum and moisturizer will be applied to the treatment area to soothe and nourish the skin, along with a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher for protection.
This mild, painless procedure is performed in-office at The Bloom Medical Spa. Microdermabrasion is considered a “lunchtime procedure” because treatment sessions usually take less than one hour, and you can resume your regular daily routine the minute you leave our office.
What Can I Expect During Recovery From Microdermabrasion?
The depth of exfoliation achieved with microdermabrasion can leave the skin feeling dry and tight, similar to a mild sunburn, for up to 24 hours after treatment. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment, but many patients need several days to recover. The skin may appear red and feel slightly sunburned following your treatment session, but these side effects should subside within a few hours. You should refrain from full face makeup for the first few days following treatment to avoid cross-contamination and irritation from dirty cosmetic tools and allow the skin to breathe and rejuvenate itself. Sun avoidance is crucial for five days to one week following microdermabrasion, but if you cannot avoid the sun, wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher anytime you’re outside.
