Lip Augmentation in Dallas, TX
It is no secret that full, luscious lips can completely boost one’s facial appearance and beauty. Unfortunately, such plump lips do not often come naturally and that has left many women resorting to cosmetic treatments, specifically lip augmentation. The Bloom Medical Spa, led by medical director and board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David G. Genecov, has helped the women of Dallas, Plano and the surrounding areas of Texas get full, luscious lips through lip augmentation.
What Is Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation is achieved with the use of filler injections to enhance the lips’ shape, volume, and symmetry in an effort to create a softer, sexier, pout. These lip injections are non-invasive and require no general anesthesia or pre-treatment. Those patients who may be apprehensive regarding needles can receive numbing cream prior to the treatment. If you desire this numbing pre-treatment, please be sure to let us know at the time you schedule your procedure so that we may plan accordingly. Please be aware that having the pre-treatment done will add an additional 15 to 20 minutes onto the length of your procedure.
Studies have shown that rounder, fuller lips with well-defined borders are thought to be widely considered as attractive by American society. At The Bloom Medical Spa, we are proud to offer a non-surgical lip enhancement to help you achieve this highly desirable look. During the treatment, ultra-fine needles are used to inject biodegradable hyaluronic acid fillers into the lips to give them a natural, shapely appearance. Our registered nurses who perform this procedure are highly skilled, experienced, and trained to use the injections to artistically give the lips added volume, improved shape, perfected symmetry and proper proportion where it lacked before.
Why Choose The Bloom Medical Spa for Lip Augmentation?

How is the Lip Injection Done?
Lip augmentation appointments are typically scheduled ahead of time. You will first meet with us for an initial consultation and assessment. It is recommended that your lips have no trace of previous fillers at this time. Two weeks prior to your scheduled treatment, you must avoid taking any blood thinners or medication that may increase your risk of bruising and swelling. These include Omega 3 supplements, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil supplements, Advil, or a diet high in fish proteins. If you have ever suffered from a cold sore in the past, please be sure to tell us this ahead of time as well. We will need to prescribe medication for you to take, prior to your treatment, which will help lower the risk of the injections triggering the virus that causes cold sores from returning. The medication is meant to lower this risk but does not completely erase it.
On the day you are scheduled to come in for your treatment, you will meet with one of the nurses. Pre-treatment will be arranged at this time. If you want to receive the numbing cream, it will need to be applied and allowed to sit on the lips for 20 to 30 minutes before treatment begins.
Typically, pre-treatment is suggested with use of the numbing cream. The entire injection part of the procedure takes only 10 minutes. At the beginning of the procedure, you are given a small icepack to apply to your lips in order to cool them down. The coolness of the ice pack helps to numb the nerves, which helps in pain reduction and keeping you as comfortable as possible. The cold causes blood vessels to constrict, which helps tremendously in reducing the swelling and bruising that can result from lip injections.
Lip augmentation is a relatively simple treatment. During the procedure, small amounts of lip filler (Juvederm® or Restylane®) are injected directly into your lips using a tiny needle. Which filler is used depends on the existing shape and size of the lips and the desired end result. The injection itself only takes 5 to 10 minutes to perform.
Post-treatment, it is recommended that you stay and relax at our facility as you apply an ice pack to the lips for another 10 minutes in order to further minimize any swelling or bruising. However, slight swelling is to be expected and usually resolves itself sometime during the first 48 hours following treatment. Most patients are able to return to work immediately after receiving treatment. You will be provided with full written instructions on all aftercare.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Young skin has an abundance of hyaluronic acid, a substance which works to bind water molecules in the skin, thereby giving it fullness, keeping the skin hydrated, and promoting smoothness. As people age, the effect of the hyaluronic acid is weakened, resulting in a loss of facial volume and fullness and an increase in fine lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is widely used in general medicine, with over 30 million people having been treated with it worldwide. As an injectable, the body eventually absorbs the hyaluronic acid and breaks it down. Therefore, treatment in very mobile areas, such as the lips, can last up to three months and in areas such as the cheeks, results can be seen up to one year.
Your Lip Filler Options
Today, patients have many different options when it comes to lip filler injections, with most clinical differences being in the areas of the time length of results and the feel of the filler. Some hyaluronic acid lip fillers help smooth the lips and improve hydration, while others are better suited for improving volume and shaping the lips, correcting unevenness, or plumping up thinned out lips. The Bloom Medical Spa utilizes only the latest, proven brands of hyaluronic acid fillers to provide the softest, most natural results possible with less pain, swelling, and bruising. During your consultation, we will recommend the brand, (either Juvederm® or Restylane®) that is most suited to your specific needs. These lip fillers may have slight differences in terms of price, durability, and consistency, but they all contain non-animal derived hyaluronic acid and are FDA-approved to be safe and effective. Once injected, these substances lift, shape, and fill out the lips ultimate smoothness and lasting results. The following are a few of the benefits of lip augmentation using hyaluronic acid-based fillers:
- Proven to be safe and effective.
- Improvement to lips is seen instantly.
- Quick, easy procedure lasting less than 20 minutes with no recovery time needed.
- Natural, long-lasting results.
- Effects that can easily be corrected if you are unsatisfied for any reason with the result (the product is biodegradable and broken down by the body).
Should You Consider Lip Enhancement?
You may be an ideal candidate for a lip augmentation at The Bloom Medical Spa if:
- You have always felt like you lips are on the thin side and they seem to get lost when you smile.
- Your lips have thinned out over time or become less full with age.
- You have found yourself feeling self-conscious regarding the appearance of your lips.
- You feel that more full lips would balance out your face more
What Happens to the Lips During Aging?
The skin goes through many changes as part of the natural aging process, and the skin on your lips and surrounding the mouth are no different. Lips peak in fullness in your 20’s and from there:
- The amount of volume that naturally exists in the lips starts to decrease, resulting in a flatter and thinner appearance.
- Fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear as skin loses it elasticity and lip pigment and the Cupid’s bow above the upper lip become less noticeable and defined.
- The area surrounding the mouth and the area between your upper lip and nose starts to flatten.
- Genetics, gravity, emotion, smoking, and other factors can contribute to the mouth starting to droop, resulting in a worn out appearance.
Considering all of the above, even those individuals who may have once had perfectly round, full lips may find themselves in need of lip augmentation.
Aesthetic Benefits of Lip Injections
Cosmetic lip fillers can enhance the fullness, shape, definition and overall appearance of your lips safely and naturally, giving you a refreshed look and renewed confidence. Besides the benefit of giving you the lips you have always wanted, lip filler treatment can help erase the signs of aging by filling in lines and wrinkles as well as improving the lips’ texture and smoothness.
- Lipstick bleed lines and smile lines around the mouth are softened as the outlines of the lips appear more defined.
- The lips’ own natural contour is redefined through enhancing or restoring volume.
- The lips’ edges are lifted to counter the effects of gravity and age and give a more youthful appearance.
- The Cupid’s bow is made more distinct and defined.
- The area below the mouth is strengthened, thereby reducing the effect of aging and giving the lips more support and the face an overall more youthful appearance.
How Long Does The Enhancement Last?
The improvement seen from receiving lip filler treatment lasts for approximately six to nine months, with the exact length of time depending on individual traits and the type and amount of filler that was used. Because hyaluronic acid is completely absorbed and broken down by the body over a period of a few months, further treatments are recommended every six months in order to maintain results.
