Acne Scar Treatment in Dallas, TX
Acne scars develop as a result of damage to the pores from the buildup of dead skin cells, oils, and bacteria. This damage can create deep, permanent lesions due to the skin’s inability to clear itself. Two different types of scars can form due to acne. The first is hypertrophic, or keloid scars, which form as a result of increased collagen production related to the body’s natural healing process. In response to a wound, the body ramps up production of collagen to heal the injury and, as a result, this type of scar appears as raised tissue. The other type of acne scarring is depressed or atrophic as a result of a loss of tissue. Depressed scars take many different shapes such as a deep V-shape (known as “icepick”) or a deep rectangular shape (“boxcar”). The Eclipse MicroPen™ is a revolutionary tool used to soften the appearance of acne scarring. We are proud to provide our clients in Dallas, Plano, and the surrounding Texas communities with this effective method for naturally renewing the texture and appearance of their skin. The MicroPen™ works to activate the body’s own natural restorative processes in transforming the skin from flawed and damaged to smooth and flawless.
What is Acne?
Acne is a skin condition in the form of inflamed pustules, usually appearing on the face that results from an accumulation of bacteria, oil, and dead skin cells. It can appear as blackheads, whiteheads, and/or red bumps. Acne can be superficial or several skin layers deep. Because of the hormonal imbalances of puberty, teens are the primary population to suffer from acne. However, acne also affects several adults and scarring can develop at any age.
What Causes Acne?
The root cause of your acne usually depends on your age. Most often, acne during the teen years results from all of the hormonal changes during puberty but can also develop from a lack of proper hygiene habits. Regardless of the cause, the result is clogged pores which develop into blackheads, whiteheads or red pimples.
What are Acne Scars, Why Do They Occur?
Acne scars are the result of the acne being so severe and so deep that the affected skin tissue is injured. These injuries then become permanent marks on the skin’s surface in the form of indentations or depressions due to skin’s natural healing process. These scars lack elasticity, have irregularly arranged dermal fibers, and contain less collagen. Successful scar treatment requires both the removal of the skin in the injured area and the stimulation of new collagen at the site in an effort to improve tone and texture.

What is Automated Micro-Needling?
Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is one of the newest innovations in cosmetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other signs of skin damage and aging. During this procedure, tiny needles create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin as part of the body’s natural healing process. The result is an improvement in the skin’s texture and the softening of wrinkles and lines. Automated micro-needling is another method of creating micro-channels on the skin’s surface. Doing so helps topical gels, creams and serums absorb into the skin better when they are used as part of a treatment plan. Eclipse MicroPen™ is the most innovative medical-grade automated micro-needling device available today.
Treating Acne Scars using the Eclipse MicroPen™
A topical gel is first applied to clean skin. In most cases, we use a gel that contains a combination of hyaluronic acid and peptides. This product helps to soothe the skin and makes it easier for the MicroPen™ tip to glide across your skin as it delivers topical hyaluronic acid (HA) – a building block of healthy skin – deep beneath the surface.
The next step is to select the appropriate pen setting and number of needle passes necessary to address your skin’s specific needs. As the tip of the Eclipse MicroPen™ is applied to the skin’s surface, thousands of shallow holes are created every second. This process stimulates your skin’s natural healing abilities. The body communicates with the skin to begin the repair process almost immediately and, as a result, new collagen and elastin yield softer, firmer skin and a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, and lines.
Following treatment, your skin will have an immediate glow. Results will become visible around one month post-treatment after your skin has had the chance to heal itself from the procedure.
What Will I Feel During An Eclipse Micropen™ Procedure?
The sensation associated with the Eclipse Micropen™ procedure has been likened to that of light sandpaper being moved across your skin. While some facial areas tend to be more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating needle tip lessens the amount of discomfort experienced while the topical gel that was applied at the beginning of the procedure also helps to make the treatment more bearable.
How Long Does An Eclipse Micropen™ Procedure Take?
The entire procedure takes an average of 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Is There Any Downtime After The Eclipse Micropen™ Procedure?
Your skin will likely appear bright red immediately following treatment, however, this is in appearance only and does not affect your ability to resume your normal daily activities.
The total healing time your skin will require depends on the Eclipse MicroPen™ setting used, as well as the number of overlapping passes that were performed. Patients will experience redness for two to four days, on average. Some patients are completely healed in under 24 hours. It all depends on your unique skin composition and needs.
When Will I See The Results From The Eclipse Micropen™?
Patients have reported seeing a “glow” to their skin immediately following treatment. It takes several weeks for visible changes to develop as the skin heals itself. Your complexion will continue to improve itself for up to six months post-procedure as the skin’s increase in collagen production continues.
How Many Eclipse Micropen™ Treatments Will I Need?
For those patients receiving Eclipse Micropen™ treatments to improve the appearance of acne scars, it is recommended that they undergo six to eight separate treatment sessions at six-week intervals.
